Jakin was totally in his element yesterday morning. A sweet friend of ours took us out to see her horses. The kids got to help brush the horses, feed them, learn about what they ate, see their teeth, check out their horse shoes, and even ride them! They are studying farm animals this week in preschool, so this made for a really fun lesson to go along with that theme. Now, my kids have almost no experience with horses, so I expected them to be pretty hesitant. And both girls were. (Mikaiah held on to me like a little spider monkey and kept saying "hosies scawy!" While Anna had herself completely wrapped around one of my legs. It was a little difficult to snap any quality pictures of Jakin enjoying his ride with my body ornaments!) But Jakin just hopped right onto the back of that horse like the animal wasn't 6x his size. He referred to himself as "Cowboy Jakin" the whole morning. It was really fun to see him show such boldness and excitement over something new and possibly a little overwhelming. That part of his personality is just emerging and it has been very fun to watch!

After taking a leisurely ride with me, Anna decided to ride on her own. She had a blast and even rode without holding on for a few seconds!
Mikaiah eventually got brave enough to pet one of the horses and help Jakin put some straw out for them to eat.

oh my goodness how fun is that? i love it! so glad you're getting to do such fun things with the kids!!!
So fun! Now you need to watch the Backyardigans "Cowboy Tyrone" episode. Maybe the girls will get into the fun hip-hop moves if they aren't so into the horses. :)

Oh, Jakin is adorable and so brave! I love the pretend lasso. You may need to swing that cowboy by the Dollar Tree for a hat, Miss Chris. :-)
(Maybe the girls would get into the spirit, too, if dress-up were involved!)
