Well, we avoided it for 3 and 1/2 years, but Sunday night we made our first trip to the emergency room. Jakin was playing with Brian when he fell back and put his hand out to catch himself. He broke the base of his humerus, the bone going into the top of his elbow. He was amazing at the hospital and only cried when they did x-rays and splinted it (with no pain meds, at 3am--really, can you blame him?!) In the waiting room, (again, after midnight...) he made friends with the people around us by "ice skating" around and "riding his motorcycle". It may seem like he was active enough for me to doubt his injury, but through all his sweet little 3 yr. old activity, he kept his arm completely still, pinned to his side the whole night.
Here his is, showing off the splint he got in the ER.

After the swelling went down, he chose a bright green cast.

He's such a sweet big brother, he let Mikaiah finish the sucker he got during his x-ray after his ortho appt.. He was too busy eating ice cream on the way home to finish it. Mikaiah is also a big fan of his sling and likes to wear it when he's not. :)

Poor guy! He looks adorable in it - Connor will think his choice of color is pretty cool!
Ah, poor kid! I remember all too well our first (and only) broken arm in this family. Scary, isn't it? Man, kids are resilient, though!
Are you going to have people sign his cast? We painted Isabelle's favorite things on hers, using poster paint and acrylics.
*Hint: you can use the flat wooden spoons for itchy spots inside the cast.* :-)
Poor kid! Why does that stuff always end up happening in the middle of the night? :) Mikaiah's dress is SO cute -Walmart? Ellie has the blue/purple version.
What a brave boy! I am so proud of him for being so big about it. My heart just broke when I heard he broke his arm. Glad things seem to be ok right now.
oh man... the first ER visit! I love his green cast!
