Just a Run of the Mill Ventricular Septal Defect...

We saw Jakin's cardiologist today and everything went great! He had a echocardiogram and did awesome. He just laid still and watched Diego while they took pictures of his little heart. Basically, the hole is the same. It's not getting any smaller, but also not growing at all. As of right now, he can lead a completely normal life and expect to experience no problems with his heart. The doctor even said he'd probably be healthy enough to play pro football. (Although, this Mama has a bit of an issue with football, so I'll be encouraging safer things such as swimming...watch out Michael Phelps!) We will be going back to see his cardiologist every year just to make sure that none of the very rare complications that he could experience develop. Overall, we were once again very impressed with Children's hospital and their wonderful doctors! (We were especially thankful for our kind doctor since Jakin looks like he stepped out of a Rocky movie--his faded black eye, the head wound he recieved after he dove from and couch and had a head-on collision with the entertainment unit, his bruised elbow that was accidentally closed in a car door, his thrush, his tummy troubles...you name it, our little man just happened to have it all the week we had this annual check-up. I was a little afraid that they were going to call us in for neglect! Thankfully, the doctor must have realized that Jakin was in no immediate danger of losing his life in our care and he allowed us to take him back home again.) :)

Just to make you feel better, my sister has the same issue, and she is an incredible runner, and has no major issues. They did make her see a cardiologist throughout her pregnancies, but I guess Jakin won't have to worry about that! ;-)

Also, you should see my baby... totally beat up, poor kid. It's just a boy thing!!
